Deborah J. Hughes, Executive Director
Deborah is a lawyer admitted to practice in Michigan and Iowa. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Iowa College of Law. Deborah came to West Michigan after many years of private practice in Iowa. She started at the LAC as a volunteer and board member. She has been Executive Director since 2012.

Brittany Shelmon, Program Director
Brittany is a JD/PhD candidate at Indiana University Maurer School of Law and an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State University. Brittany joined the LAC staff in 2020.

Jessica Sroczynski, Program Administrator
Jessica has a BS in Writing and Legal Studies from Grand Valley State University. Jessica started at the LAC as a volunteer in 2021 and joined the staff in 2022.

Jordan Powell, Lead Legal Service Specialist
Jordan earned his JD from William Mitchell College of Law in Minnesota. After working in Alaska and Georgia as a Title IX Investigator, he returned to West Michigan and joined the LAC staff in 2023.

Ellie Kavalos, Program Assistant
Ellie has a BS in Legal Studies and Environmental and Sustainability Studies at Grand Valley State University. Ellie started at the LAC as a volunteer in 2022 and joined the staff in 2023.
