Volunteering at the LAC

At the LAC, trained volunteers work alongside experienced staff to provide legal self help services to the people of Kent County. Volunteers learn about the courts, substantive law and legal procedure. Serving at the LAC is an ideal opportunity for college and graduate students studying law or aspiring to careers in law, social work or social justice.

Requirements for LAC Volunteers

LAC volunteers must be able to serve a minimum of one, half day shift per week (morning or afternoon, Tuesday to Friday), for two consecutive volunteer terms (January-April, May-August, September-December). Volunteer schedules are set for each volunteer term.

The LAC provides initial and ongoing training.  You do not need legal experience or to be studying law to volunteer.  Volunteers must be able to attend a day-long initial training.

Internship and Work Study Opportunities

Grand Valley State University and Davenport University students may be able to serve an internship for credit at the LAC.  Davenport students may also be able to service in a work study position.  Opportunities for other students will depend on their school and program.
